David B. Stewart is a visual artist working in the Chinatown – Downtown Eastside area of Vancouver.
After graduating from Emily Carr University with a BFA in 2009, Stewart left Canada to teach English in South Korea and China, where he developed his current approach to painting. Dark humor and bright colors drive the narratives in Stewart’s paintings, which are left open to the interpretation of viewers. Stewart sees the rich history of painting as an opportunity instead of a burden, and often includes references to other painters in his pictures.
